Ready Player One

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do I go to the movies?” I know why I do but I think that question has a different answer for everyone.  If the answer is “I just want to eat popcorn and be entertained for two hours.”  Well Ready Player One is the movie for you.

I read the book for Ready Player One and liked it overall so I was pretty excited to see the movie but also had my reservations due to the fact movies are never as good as the book.  Well I am here to tell you that Ready Player One was absolutely fantastic.  Since I don’t like to give away spoilers I will just say that part of the reason the movie was so good was that is used the plot of the book but totally changed how the story unfolded.  This left me as a viewer who read the book totally enthralled into what was happening because it was all new to me as well.

The movie follows along the idea that is set in the future and a virtual reality that everyone can log into is where the story takes place.  If you grew up in the 80s and 90s you will love this movie even more because of all the pop culture references throughout the movie.  You maybe never thought you needed to see King Kong chase the Delorean but when you see it you will be happy you did.  Steven Spielberg is the director and he couldn’t be more of a perfect fit, seeing that, he made so many pop culture movies during the time period.

Ready Player One is not the greatest story and doesn’t develop character or have a great script.  What is has is non stop action, laughs, and outright fun.  I was able to see the movie in IMAX 3D which I totally believe amped up the fun and I was with some buddies so more laughs were had maybe than usual.

My favorite quote from the movie and one that may help describe its theme was “Oh no, not fucking Chuckie!!”

Overall Ready Player One is getting 7.1 buckets of popcorn.
